With increasing vaccination rates and decreasing COVID-19 case counts, many countries across Europe are starting to see light at the end of the pandemic tunnel. Not many weeks since suffering from the highest number of COVID-19-related deaths in the world as a percentage of its population1, the government in the Czech Republic is set to begin relaxing restrictions this week. Central to their efforts to end lockdown and reduce the spread of infection is accelerating the administration of vaccines. Ecolab has partnered with O2 Universum, a part of the O2 Arena complex in Prague to set up the Czech Republic’s largest vaccination centre, which is opening its doors on 3 May 2021.
The conference centre is preparing itself to vaccinate up to 7,000 people per day. The transformation of the O2 Universum into one of the largest vaccination centres in Europe required a partner who could bring healthcare and infection prevention expertise to train vaccine administrators and provide critical cleaning and disinfection solutions.
The O2 Universum was repurposed from a concerts and sports hall into a vaccination centre over the span of several weeks, with 24 stations set up across 13,000 square meters. Each station is equipped with Ecolab solutions, including 24 Mobillette Healthguards, wipes, alcohol-based hand rub and spray surface disinfectant. After training, each station and dedicated team can manage the flow of patients and effectively disinfect the workspace after a vaccination. The whole Centre is equipped with more than 140 Nexa hand disinfection dispensers.
“We are honored to support the government and Prague Military Hospital in this bold and important effort to turn an entertainment venue into a vaccination location for thousands of people every day.” said, Jan Bohacek, vice president, Institutional, Central and Eastern Europe and Russia at Ecolab. “Our teams have worked hand-in-hand with arena and hospital management to help train staff on cleaning and disinfection practices and roll out these state-of-the-art vaccination stations to safely manage the large flow of patients.”

The centre has an ambitious goal to vaccinate one million people by the end of the year. Ecolab stands ready to support the dedicated teams working around the clock as it is already doing at dozens of other vaccination centres across Europe, providing cleaning and disinfection solutions and expertise where it matters most.
